Our editorial approach

Useful guidance needs a clear boundary between documented behavior and a proposed way of working.

Documentation for behavior

The guides use primary documentation for specific tool behavior, including operating-system support pages, filesystem command manuals, browser API references, and original research. Each Lab article has one editorial source link in its body, chosen for the factual point it directly supports.

A source about one tool is not treated as proof about every product in the category. An object-storage example, for instance, does not establish the behavior of every cloud drive. Product capabilities and interfaces can change; consult the linked documentation for the version you use.

Recommendations for workflow

Audit sequences, review questions, and evaluation plans are editorial proposals. They are intended to make a task easier to scope and explain. They are not certification tests, measured performance results, or a claim that a particular application implements every suggested safeguard.

We distinguish reading a file from changing it, and finding a result from authorizing an action. The AI guides apply that same distinction to retrieval and generated answers.

Examples with a visible boundary

Worked examples describe hypothetical collections rather than a scan of your machine. The homepage directory map is an illustration. There are no live storage totals, customer testimonials, software benchmarks, or connected-account results on this site.

Dates and source context

Article dates identify the entries in the Lab archive. They are not a promise that every linked product or interface remains unchanged. A platform-specific procedure should be checked against the documentation for the system in front of you. No modification date is displayed where a separate revision history is unavailable.
